About Meet Desai
Meet is a mechanical engineer-turned-digital marketer who’s been working in marketing automation in his year one. He’s currently a Marketing Automation and Operations Specialist at Questrade Financial Group where he uses client segmentation personas, customer journeys, and data strategies to plan and execute a multi-segment email marketing strategy designed to acquire, qualify and convert prospects. Meet also influences and implements joint Sales-Marketing integrated processes and capabilities between Questrade’s CRM and Marketing technology stack.

How Meet Got the Job
Meet created his own marketing funnel process to network with folks in marketing automation. He started with how many people to reach out to, estimate how many conversations he’d have, then how many opportunities might come from there. Meet got his co-op placement in marketing automation at The Co-operators (yes, you read that right π) from doing this, and it also helped him with Questrade too...
“I got role at Questrade from networking. At the original time I spoke with somebody they didn’t have a vacancy; after my co-op I reached out to the manager from Questrade again and there was a role so I got hired into it then.”
Mistake Made
Trying to do everything. My rookie mistake was I was excited when I started my first job and tried to learn everything. “I was all over the place and spread myself too thin.” Time management is important. Plan time for certain projects. Go deep into something. Then build out the 'T'-shaped person from there.
Lesson Learned
Play to your strengths. You might not know exactly what you want to do…but you might know what you don’t want to do.
Pro Tip
Find your own job search process. Different minds work in different ways. Figure out what works for your job search and do it. For me it was approaching it like a marketing funnel to network with people.
