Account Manager @ Pinterest with Rachel Cooper

Rachel and Blair discuss why it feels good to use and work at Pinterest (which you can’t say about many mainstream search engines and social networks), how to write a bulletproof resume; and the need to “balance being realistic with optimistic” to not oversell your skills.

The Highlights and Hottest Takes 🔥
How Rachel Got the Job
Rachel saw a job posted on LinkedIn for contract position at Pinterest Canada. She did the easy apply option to upload her “bulletproof” resume and click the button to submit (without a cover letter). Then Rachel went through “the typical tech company hiring process” that she explains in our conversation.
Mistake Made
Don’t oversell yourself going into an interview. Be honest about your current capabilities/skills. “Nobody expects you to come in with director-level knowledge.”
Lesson Learned
Raise your hand to advocate for yourself. Speak up. Nobody is going to come to you, you need to ask. Ask to join calls, meetings, projects. “This gets your name in rooms with different people you might not get on their radar otherwise.”
Pro Tip
The bulletproof resume is concise, shows impact and uses keywords. Keep it concise to 1-2 pages. Use measures to quantify your impact. Use keywords in our resume that are relevant for the job you want.
